Ervas (Ria de Aveiro)

Ervas (Ria de Aveiro) is the smallest estuary/“lagoon” launch in the Ria de Aveiro system, known for genuinely flat, often glassy water on the right tide. When conditions line up, it’s an ideal place for clean twin-tip kitesurfing with minimal chop and a calm, secluded feel. The trade-off is strict tide dependency and limited margin for error. The usable window is typically around roughly two hours before to two hours after high tide, and outside that period the spot can become unusable as depth drops and the launch/walk-out becomes a mud-and-shell challenge. The launch is compact and the parking area is tiny, so arriving outside the tide window or having an untidy/tangled setup can quickly turn into a problem. Wind is typically best from the north and west, with a summer thermal pattern (Nortada) building in the early afternoon and holding until sunset. Reports describe the winds as among the more reliable estuary options in the Aveiro area during summer months. Facilities are limited at the specific launch, and foiling is not recommended here due to shallow/variable depth and the mixed mud/sand/shell bottom. If you need a straightforward flat-water twin-tip session and you’re comfortable managing tide timing, Ervas is a strong low-crowd choice; otherwise, plan your day around the tide gate and bring appropriate foot protection.
