Albatroz (Santa Maria Coast)

Albatroz (at Ponta Leme Bedje / Funana area on the east side of Santa Maria bay) is a widely recognized wind sports location built around the steady Northeast trade wind. The wind pattern is reported as consistent during the main season, with riders commonly finding a broad window for freeride and foil work. On the water, conditions are described as flat-to-choppy. Several reports emphasize flat water for kitesurfing and very fast, flat runs for windsurfing inside the bay, while small to medium wave activity can show up when swell arrives. When swell comes from the south, the spot can become especially clean for wave riding in a limited section. Launch and near-shore conditions require attention: buildings and beach infrastructure can create wind turbulence in the first part of the run (especially close to shore), and there are reports of gustiness at launch. Currents are also flagged as a key consideration, with stronger current specifically noted in winter. Safety-wise, use the designated launch zones during peak tourist periods, respect swimming areas, and avoid getting too close to central pier/structures.
