Island View Beach (Vancouver Island)

Island View Beach is a cold-water wind sports spot on the east shore of the Saanich Peninsula, just north of Victoria. It features clean water with small-wave conditions and a beach area that can narrow significantly during high tide. Wind is described as predominantly frontal, with best directions covering northerly through southeasterly flow, making it a go-to destination when winter SE-type winds are active. For kitesurfing, the spot is primarily associated with freeride and small-wave riding, with additional mention of foil-friendly sessions. Typical wind conditions are described in the 15–30 knot range, and the recommended kite size band is commonly given as roughly 7 m to 12 m. Wind direction guidance consistently centers on N, E, ESE, and SE, with winter storm cycles described as reliably windy. Safety is a major focus here: strong tidal currents are listed as a hazard, and water temperatures are cold year-round.
