Salinas de Pullalli (Papudo Coast)

Salinas de Pullalli is a rivermouth surf break north of Papudo, known for producing a left-hand wave with regional-classic quality and long ride potential. The spot is reported to begin working around 1.5–2 m swell, with sessions that can hold up to about 2.5 m and above. On the smaller side it’s described as having a beginner-wave profile, while larger swells make it a more demanding, stronger regional option. Wave performance is consistently described as involving peeling/left-hand running lines, with ride lengths commonly reported in the ~50–150 m range and good-day rides extending further (reported up to roughly 150–300 m). The sandy bottom and rivermouth sandbar effects can create strong near-river currents, so conditions can vary significantly around the mouth area and after heavy rain. Timing the tide matters: low and mid tide are repeatedly reported as the best tide positions, and it’s also noted to work on rising and falling tides. Wind-wise, south to south-east winds are described as providing offshore grooming, and South is stated as the optimal wind direction. Regionally, an afternoon thermal-driven wind window is common, with a sea-breeze pattern most typical in the warm-season months. Access is typically via a parking area near surf school/sup activity, and a paid parking lot is reported; weekdays are often quiet while weekends can become crowded. Because lifeguards are not reported on site and rescue is described as limited, swimmers and surfers are advised to come prepared with supplies and to treat the river-mouth currents and cold water as key safety factors.
