Silver Foxes

Silver Foxes is an elusive left-hand point break near Powell River that only comes alive on the right south swell and tide window. Surf is described as extremely infrequent (around five days per year), so success is heavily dependent on timing and monitoring conditions. When it does work, it produces short rides (typically under 50 meters) over a flat rock bottom with an overall soft, gentle character. The spot is most associated with south swell working at roughly 2.5–3 meters, and it can hold up to about 1 meter+ once it starts breaking on larger south setups. The preferred tide window is high tide, with a rising tide noted as best. Locally, south wind is described as the preferred setup, and the break is characterized as requiring strong southern conditions during rarer surges to generate anything rideable. Safety-wise, the main hazard is rocks (with cold water also emphasized). Expect a very low crowd level when it’s active; however, because it is so rarely open, plan carefully and prioritize safe access and entry/exit—especially given the rocky shoreline and exposed nature of the break.
