Arenillas Negras (Atacama)

Arenillas Negras is an exposed beach break near Arica with dark sand and generally average, often inconsistent surf. Sessions are described as relatively uncrowded even when conditions are good, which makes it a popular alternative when other nearby breaks are too busy or too intense. Across reports, the best results are consistently tied to mid tide. The break is described as peeling to the right, and it can also offer both left and right-handers depending on the setup. Most rides tend to be short and punchy for a beach-break: quick slides that may end in close-outs on the sand. Wind-wise, northeast winds are repeatedly identified as the key to cleaner, more offshore conditions. One dataset also notes that an afternoon sea breeze is common in the region, though later in the day it may turn cross-shore or slightly onshore—so checking how the breeze is behaving is important for ride quality.
