Biba (Aquermoud)

Biba (Aquermoud) is a kitesurfing-focused spot north of Essaouira with clean water, a big beach, and wave/freeride potential. Wind is centered on the north through northwest (N, NW, NNW) and is most consistent from June to August, with trade-wind behavior and additional thermal reinforcement during summer afternoons. On the water, the area is described as having rocks—especially toward the ends of the bay and some scattered in the riding zone—so careful kite placement and attention near shore are essential. A full wetsuit is recommended year-round, and the water is consistently around 16–19°C even in warmer months. For kitesurfing, typical conditions are suited to riders with at least intermediate experience, combining summer wind reliability with wave riding and freeride lines. Reported typical wind strength in the wind season is roughly 15–30 knots, with common summer kite sizes around 7–10 m². Surfing and wind sports are more exposed here. Surf is described as a beach/reef-mix type setup that can work when swell is moderate, with best results on NW swell and mid tide; on very large swells it can become heavy and close out. Local logistics are basic—geared travelers should plan for limited on-site services and the fact that rescue is not available at the spot; use Essaouira as the base for medical and support.
