Los Estanques

Los Estanques is a city-access surf spot in Antofagasta, set on a small, rocky coastline with clean, ordinary-power waves. The break is described as a right-hand wave over a rocky/reef-type bottom, with medium ride lengths and generally good wave quality. Conditions are reported to be very consistent (around 150 days per year) and usable across all tide levels. From a skills perspective, the spot is commonly characterized as suitable for all surfers, with guidance particularly emphasizing beginner caution due to the rocky entry/exit. The main practical challenge is safety: hazards include rocks, rips, and urchins, plus sharp reef/rock bottom and submerged rocks. Protective footwear is strongly recommended, and careful route planning for entry and exit is emphasized. Windwise, the area is associated with reliable afternoon sea-breeze conditions. A typical working wind window is reported as 10–18 knots, with winds most often from the East to Southeast, and best quality described when winds are offshore (East/Southeast). Because the sea breeze builds later in the day, the spot is often best earlier—before afternoon wind strengthens. For planning around gear and comfort, water temperatures are reported seasonally, roughly from about 14–16°C in winter months up to around 18–21°C in summer, with a wetsuit commonly recommended around 4/3mm for most of the year (3/2mm may be sufficient mid-summer). Overall, the combination of a durable rocky break, consistent surf, and straightforward all-tide access makes it a reliable local/regional classic for sessions in Antofagasta.
