Ram Five

Ram Five is a technical right-hand point break in Antofagasta, set on a small rocky shoreline/reef with a narrow entry. The wave is commonly described as peeling and fairly consistent, but the riding is best approached with intermediate to advanced skill due to the hard bottom and exposed conditions. Surfing works best with southwest to west swell, and conditions are reported to improve when winds are from the east (offshore/cleaning effect). Several sources note the spot can be blown out at times and that wind reliability is low, so checking wind direction and strength before committing is important. Safety is a central concern: rocks and sea urchins are repeatedly flagged hazards, and moderate rip currents are possible near the point. Booties are strongly recommended, and it’s suggested to surf around mid-tide to reduce the chance of encountering exposed rocks at low tide. On timing, February is highlighted as the best month for the spot, and winter-to-summer water temperatures generally range from the mid-teens up to low 20s °C. A spring wetsuit is recommended by one source, while another suggests 3/2 mm in summer and 4/3 mm in winter months.
