Oued Massa (Sidi Bibi)

Oued Massa (Sidi Bibi) is an exposed river-mouth surf spot in southern Morocco, set near the estuary where the Oued Massa meets the Atlantic. It’s described as reasonably consistent and able to work throughout the year, with many reports pointing to winter as the period for more reliable swell. The beach/river-mouth environment means conditions can vary quickly as the sandbars and river flow change. Surf is centered on peeling waves, with one source specifically describing consistent rights that peel across the sandbars. In the best setups—particularly after a river flush—rides can become very long. Wave quality is generally reported as average to good, depending on swell size and sandbar alignment. Wind can strongly influence grooming: offshore winds are reported at times (NE/E in one description), helping produce cleaner wave faces; at other times cross-offshore wind is noted. The spot is also described as exposed, so wind exposure and rapid weather/swell changes are part of the challenge. Safety and access planning are key. The river mouth is associated with strong rip currents and shifting sandbars, and after heavy rains there may be river debris. The area is within the Souss-Massa National Park with restrictions (including no camping directly on the beach), and the spot is remote with no lifeguards or organized rescue; the nearest major medical facilities are in Agadir. A practical approach is to check conditions in the morning when the swell may be smaller and winds are favorable, and to bring supplies and a suitable vehicle for sandy tracks.
