Ventanas

Ventanas is a regional-classic point-break spot with both right and left waves and a reputation for very consistent surf (reported around 150 days per year). It’s especially noted for performing well with North swells, which helps it stand out compared with many nearby stretches. For surfing, typical working conditions begin around 1.0–1.5 m and can hold up to 4 m or more on bigger swells. Normal ride lengths are described in the 50–150 m range, while stronger or better days can extend to roughly 150–300 m. The break is generally described as exposed, and it can feel best when winds are light or come from North or South (optimal wind directions are reported as North and South). The main issue is safety: the shore is within an industrial zone between Quintero and Horcón, and providers and spot databases highlight pollution as the key hazard. Reports include industrial pollution and concerns such as heavy metals and coal dust, along with occasional closures or health advisories following contamination incidents. Because water is cold for much of the year, an appropriately thick wetsuit is strongly emphasized. Crowds are also seasonal: weekdays are usually described as few/quiet, while weekends can become crowded with surfers from the broader Valparaíso and Santiago areas. Access is by car with a short walk from the access point, and parking is available near the beach area and in town.
