Aghnajane (Sidi Ahmed Essayeh)

Aghnajane (often referred to as Iftane) is a remote, wild sand beach south of Essaouira that’s primarily used for kitesurfing. The spot is typically characterized by small to medium waves, clean water, and a beach launch reached via a dirt road off the coastal route toward Had-Smimou. It’s commonly described as quieter than the main Essaouira wind-sports hubs, making it attractive for riders looking for a calmer environment. Wind is driven by north to north-east trade winds (Alizés), with strong seasonal persistence during summer. Local thermal reinforcement can add strength, and a thermal window is reported in the afternoon (roughly 1:00 PM–6:00 PM). Reported typical wind speeds are about 15–30 knots, with a note that stronger conditions often favor larger kites in the morning and smaller sizes later in the day. For kitesurfing, the spot is generally framed as intermediate-friendly for freeride and wave-style riding, while wave enthusiasts and strapless riders may also be interested depending on conditions. Windsurfing is reported as a wave-focused option best suited to advanced riders, and wingfoiling is described as more challenging due to shore break and wave energy, with foil-friendliness noted as limited. Surfing is also possible as a beach-break, with a stated tendency for fun waves when wind is lighter earlier in the day or during winter swell.
