Temara-Guivil (Mers El Kheir)

Temara-Guivil (Mers El Kheir) is a beginner-friendly right-hand reef-and-rock surf spot with waves that are described as mellow/soft and generally not as powerful as other regional options. The break works off Atlantic swell, typically starting at around 1.5 to 2 meters and capable of holding up to roughly 2 meters and beyond. For wave setup, the most favorable swell directions are reported as northwest, west, and south-west, producing right-hand waves over a rocky reef bottom. Wind from the south-east, east, and north-east is described as working well, with grooming/offshore-like behavior noted from East and SouthEast. The spot is noted to be best around low to mid tide, including falling-tide conditions. On the surface, rides are typically short (often under 50 meters), while good-quality days can extend into a more normal 50 to 150 meter range. Wave quality is consistently described as good, with peeling/mixed characteristics. The spot is also described as exposed to conditions, so reading the nearshore reef zone matters. Access is described as being in the city with quick walking access from the beach area, and the break is located between the Miramar restaurant and the Guiville cliff area near Guiville beach. Weekday crowd levels are reported as empty, while weekends usually have only a few surfers. Because the seabed includes sharp rocks/reef and coral hazards, booties (and a wetsuit) are strongly recommended and it’s important to surf only when you can safely manage the rocky bottom.
