Oued Iquem

Oued Iquem is a fairly exposed rivermouth break between Rabat and Casablanca that’s consistently described as working best in winter. Surf is generally “good” and the setup can produce both lefts and rights, with rights often more prominent and better formed. When the river output helps build sandbanks, the break can also generate longer peeling sections. The main hazards are submerged/exposed rocks near the river mouth and along the break, plus strong rivermouth currents and possible rip currents (especially after rainfall or on larger winter swells). Because of this combination of rocks and current, it’s not considered a beginner-friendly spot; intermediate surfers are the typical target level. Sessions are also commonly advised around high tide and when conditions line up with offshore wind. Wind direction matters for quality: Southeast winds are described as offshore and tend to keep conditions cleaner, while Northwest winds are more likely to bring heavy chop. The spot is also reported to need the right swell/wind match—West and Northwest swells are cited as the more favorable swell directions, especially during the winter swell season. Crowds are reported to stay low: it’s considered unlikely to be too crowded even when the surf is up. Amenities are limited at the beach itself, but there are basic cafes along the coastal road, and accommodation is available nearby in Skhirat.
